City hall Nieuwegein delivered to user

In September 2011, the “Stadshuis Nieuwegein” (City Hall Nieuwegein) has been delivered to its user. The building has been designed by 3xN from Copenhagen, Denmark.

The City Hall, with an area of approximately 21.000 sqm, is part of a major development plan, currently nearing completion. The City Hall serves as town hall and also houses the library, the center for visual arts, a social center and shops. To make all functions in the building visible, a large atrium has been designed which runs like a spiral through the building. This creates platforms and cantilevers to facilitate the interaction between the floors. For the main supporting structure a hybrid construction has been chosen with concrete slab floors and columns and large steel structures for large cantilevering parts and large spans.
