Zonneveld ingenieurs structural engineer new NKOC building

Rotterdam, 16 January 2012 – the national Kinderoncologisch Centre (NKOC) will be built at the Uithof location in Utrecht. The NKOC will house the scientific research into children's cancer. The chosen location is situated close to both a University children's Hospital (Wilhelmina children's Hospital) and a cancer treatment centre for adults (UMC Utrecht Cancer Center).
Zonneveld ingenieurs b.v. has been selected as main structural engineer for the new building.

A European tendering procedure has taken place and awarded the project on the basis of project vision and on the basis of verifiable knowledge and experience with regard to sustainability and building information Model (BIM) methodology. The design team also comprises LIAG (architect), Royal Haskoning (Advisor technical installations), Twynstra Gudde (Program of Requirements, project management, concept development) and ZRI (support of the project management).
The delivery of the new NKOC will be in 2015.

The NKOC wants to achieve healing with minimal side effects and optimal opportunities for development into adulthood for all children with cancer. Optimal care and top research concentrated in a national children’s cancer centre, belonging to the worlds best cancer centers. For children who can't be cured, the NKOC would like to provide the best possible palliative care to the child and its family.
The ambitions for the integrated design team are clear: design a building for the NKOC within time and within budget, where the new building itself, as so-called "Healing Environment", proactively supports healing and development of the children and forms a pleasant and motivating work environment.
