The 7-storey building winds around a central atrium, which is a central meeting and traffic area with walk-ways. The standard floors have been designed efficiently and systematically, which ensured a high building speed with limited building costs. This design approach made extra investment possible in the atrium, which now houses a spectacular steel tree structue, which supports the roof, the stairs and the walk-ways. Bordering the atrium we find a rehabilitation garden, an out-door sport area, gym and swimming pool.
From the beginning of the design, it has been the goal to found the new building, which is immediately adjacent to the old building, on a natural foundation. This cut costs for the concrete structure of the foundation and made sure there was no hindrance from pile-driving work.
